I am the owner of a large collection of trade paperbacks, and am in the process of putting a stamp into each volume and giving them an inventory number and date entered into the collection. Due to the size and ever-growing nature of them, there is only minimal logic order to their Inventory ID.

The Inventory ID is loosely broken up in this manner: A group (such as all Asimov books), and an individual Item ID for within that group. 23-800 would be Group 23, Item 800. It is highly unlikely my collection will ever contain over 999 items within a group, or over 99 groups, and definitely not over 10,000 items total. If it does go to over 99 groups somehow, I will begin using A, B, C, etc for additional tens-digits, like 80, 90, A0, B0, C0, etc.

Apart from that, the order within the group is not really accounted for. In the case of multiple copies of the same edition/cover, I have given each copy unique Item IDs within the same group, but the copies may not have a logic order to them within the group; whichever book I picked up that didn't have a stamp, got added.

This somewhat reflects the nature of a collector's journey; you may find another item to add to your collection out in the wild quite randomly, out of order from the rest.

Each actual copy of the book from the actual collection will have an official Miccmo Collection ink stamp on an inside cover or blank area, with a hand-numbered Inventory ID.
